Another Landscape

“ANOTHER LANDSCAPE”, A VISUAL EXPLORATION OF LANDSCAPE AND WATER BY CHILEAN ARTIST PARTICIA CLARO

“Another Landscape”, a solo exhibition of paintings by chilean artist Patricia Claro at Kelley Roy Gallery in Wynwood Art District.

Patricia Claro’s luminous paintings lead the viewer through a visual investigation of the theme of landscape and water as the infinite source of images. Infinite because of the endless reflections and refractions; water’s ability to both mirror and change light and the surroundings. One moment still; the next in shimmering fluid movement, water has the capacity to deconstruct—then reassemble the images it mirrors. This is the quality Claro captures in her art. Claro continues her investigation of the dual quality of liquid landscape and the co-existence of opposites in a video installation, “Agua”, composed especially for this exhibition. The video uses water movements, electronically processed in diverse forms, to create a “sonic palette” for composing the piece.

The artist’s personal interpretation of this “scenario in movement” is the result of her rigorous experimental study of the dual quality of water and its reflections coupled with her search for “new expressive possibilities” using specifically developed techniques that include photography and “water clippings.”

According to the artist, “It is a walk through the non pictorial place. I make a displacement of the place to my landscape; I make a post-landscape.” Gallerist Susan Kelley adds that at a distance Ms. Claro’s paintings have a photographic quality. The closer one moves towards the painting, the more the artistry and the artist’s intentions are revealed.
